The Amazing Sun

The Sun's Energy Flaring Forth - *notice the size of the Earth compared to the Sun.
The sunlight  peaked between the leaves of the tall grasses in my backyard.  I thought, "What a beautiful gift the sun is."  The sun truly sacrifices itself as it creates light for our energy needs.  The sun changes hydrogen into helium and in that processes the left over energy is our light and heat.   Sun remains  the main source of all energy or matter.   Without the Sun life would cease to exist.

Einstein's famous equation, E = mc2, teaches us that matter and energy are interchangeable, merely different forms of the same thing. We have a  giant example of that in our sky:  the Sun. The Sun is powered by the conversion of mass to energy.

Reflection:

Scientific energy and sun definitions and process,  I then thought about the sacred aspect of the sun.  The sacred energy of our sun creates light by an amazing process where 600 million tons of hydrogen are transformed into 596 million tons of helium. The 4 million tons left over become light.  The sun is sacrificing itself to gift us with life.

"The reason why the universe is eternal is that it does not live for itself; it gives life to others as it transforms"     Lao Tzu

"There is a muscular energy in sunlight corresponding to the spiritual energy of wind."
Annie Dillard
